Your husband lied to your face. Not only that, he lied to your face on Valentine’s Day which may be the dumbest thing you could do as a husband. I think freezing the bank account may have been a little much, but $400 is no joke so I guess I can understand. You’re obviously not the [expletive]. Ya’ll need couples therapy,” commented another person.The consensus was that OP wasn’t the wrong party for reacting badly to her husband lying to her and meeting his mother behind her back. Some people even thought these were grounds for divorce!

Although we live in modern times, hundreds of years removed from an age where the majority of folks believed the world was run by magic, there’s still a small part of us that connects us to our ancestor’s superstitious beliefs. Whenever strange occurrences happen around us, our mind instantly visits that dark part of our brain that’s willing to lend credence to the fantastic. And there’s no area in which our minds do this more than the concept of death. Humankind’s final great mystery still inspires fear and the willingness to believe in even the most logical people. He practically went into shock. He couldn’t sleep all night and got up at the crack of dawn to go to his office. He was nervous as a cat all day, had lunch and watched the clock. He figured if he could get by until midnight he would be okay. He felt safe in the office, so instead of going home at the end of the day he stayed there, drinking coffee, looking at his watch and jumping at every sound. Finally midnight arrived; he breathed a sigh of relief and went home.

When he got home his wife said, “I’ve never seen you work so late. What’s the matter?” He said, “I don’t want to talk about it, I just had the worst day of my life.” She said, “You think you had a bad day? You’ll never believe what happened to me. This morning the mailman dropped dead on our porch!”

The boss wondered why one of his most valued employees was absent but had not phoned in sick one day.

Needing to have an urgent problem with one of the main computers resolved, he dialed the employee’s home phone number and was greeted with a child’s whisper.

“Is your daddy home?” he asked.

“Yes,” whispered the small voice.

“May I speak with him?”

The child whispered, “No.”

Surprised and wanting to talk with an adult, the boss asked, “Is your Mommy there?”

“Yes.”

“May I speak with her?”

Again the small voice whispered, “No.”

Hoping there was somebody with whom he could leave a message, the boss asked, “Is anybody else there?”

“Yes,” whispered the child, “a policeman.”

Wondering what a cop would be doing at his employee’s home, the boss asked, “May I speak with the policeman?”

“No, he’s busy,” whispered the child.

“Busy doing what?”

“Talking to Daddy and Mommy and the fireman,” came the whispered answer.

Growing more worried as he heard a loud noise in the background through the earpiece on the phone, the boss asked, “What is that noise?”

“A helicopter,” answered the whispering voice.”What is going on there?” demanded the boss, now truly apprehensive.

Again, whispering, the child answered, “The search team just landed a helicopter.”

Alarmed, concerned and a little frustrated the boss asked, “What are they searching for?”

According to the younger generation, my mama and daddy were apparently abusive to us when we were children.

We were scared to get in trouble. They made us do household jobs, go to church, and go to school. Gave us a curfew and whooped our bottom when we did wrong, they even made us go get the switch that they used on us.

They put food on the table and we were expected to eat it. They put clothes on our backs and we were expected to wear them. They expected to wear them. They suggested we get a job and work for the things that we wanted.

They insisted that we do our best at school, at our job, and to take pride in our work. We grew up with morals, a good work ethic, and respect for the law & our elders. I thank God everyday for my Mama and Daddy!!!

We’ve been married for two years and have always divided our expenses fairly and equally. Prior to my maternity leave, our monthly expenses included a $1500 rent, approximately $200 in utilities, and miscellaneous expenses.

However, we recently had a gorgeous baby boy named Ethan. He is already three months old, and taking care of him keeps me busy around the clock. And I haven’t had time to look for part-time work.

When I asked my husband about covering all of our expenditures during my unpaid maternity leave, he was utterly against it. He stated, “We promised to split everything evenly, and I am still working.

It is only reasonable that you pay half. You may not be working right now, but that does not mean you should not contribute financially. So he believes I should continue to pay my portion of the rent, despite the fact that I am currently unemployed.

I was surprised by his attitude, especially because I am the primary caregiver for our newborn.
It feels unreasonable to ask me to pay half of our rent when my time and efforts are focused on caring for our child. The restless nights, regular feeding, and diaper changes have exhausted me physically and emotionally. Furthermore, we now have additional expenses associated with our baby’s demands, such as diapers, formula, and doctor’s appointments, which adds to our financial burden.

I’ve attempted to explain to him that being on unpaid maternity leave is just temporary, and that I’ll be actively seeking for part-time work as soon as I’m able to. Meanwhile, I suggested that he cover my portion of the rent until I am able to contribute financially again. However, he insists that we split everything equally, claiming that he is already covering additional expenses for our baby’s needs.

I understand the importance of financial responsibility, but I feel like my husband is not considering the significant workload I have to take on as a new mother.
Am I wrong for expecting him to cover all the rent while I am on unpaid maternity leave, given the circumstances?
