Ron Howard calls wife ‘good luck charm,’ shares secret to 49-year marriage

Ron Howard has been a household name almost as long as the 70 years he’s lived. The Hollywood heavyweight has been going nonstop in film and television, a career he started as a toddler.

In addition to his impressive career, the multiple award winner – who also demonstrates longevity in his personal life – has been married to his wife Cheryl for almost half a century.

Keep reading to learn more about Howard, his decades-long career and marriage!

On March 1, 1954 in Duncan, Oklahoma, Ronald Howard, a future Hollywood legend was born.

Howard was only 18 months old when he appeared in his first film, Frontier Woman, and when he was two, he made his stage debut in The Seven Year Itch.

Soon after the freckle-faced redhead started his celebrity journey with his role on The Andy Griffith Show (1960 to 1968).

In this time, when the little boy played Opie, the son Griffith’s character, Howard had the full support of his parents, who were both in the entertainment industry.

“Remember how we always said, ‘You can do it if you want, but you don’t have to?’ Well if you start this, you can’t quit’,” said Howard, recalling a conversation he had with his parents decades before. “You don’t have to do other parts on other shows, if you don’t want, but you’d have to keep doing this one.”

Explaining that he understood the message his parents were delivering, Howard adds, “I think it was pretty clear at that point that I was enjoying it, and I was good at it.”

Actually, he was great at it, and he was about to reach a level of stratospheric stardom.

Howard’s ‘Happy Days’

While starring in The Andy Griffith Show, Howard also appeared on the big screen in 1962’s The Music Man, a musical film that was a huge commercial success.

A natural talent, he then starred in 1973’s American Graffiti, which also starred Harrison Ford, Richard Dreyfuss and Cindy Williams, whom he would work alongside in the future.

It was in 1974 when he was cast as Richie Cunningham in a new series created by Garry Marshall called Happy Days, which appeared on TV screens in homes across the world from 1974 to 1984.

The TV show spawned a few popular spin-offs like Laverne & Shirley, starring Williams and Marshall’s sister Penny, and Mork & Mindy with Robin Williams as Mork, the favorite Orkan.

High school sweetheart

It was in 1970 – before he won a Golden Globe for his performance as the innocent teenager on Happy Days – that Howard met the high school sweetheart, Cheryl Alley, whom he would marry in 1975.

“I met her, and there was never anybody else,” Speaking with People, the director of the Da Vinci Code continued, “She’s unbelievably supportive and always has been. Our compatibility has endured through all kinds of experiences.”

After 50 years of shared experiences, Howard, who earned an Oscar for directing A Beautiful Mind, commemorated the 50th anniversary of his first date with Cheryl on Instagram.

“Nov 1 1970 Cheryl & I went on our 1st date,” he wrote alongside a photo of himself wearing socks with images of Cheryl’s face. “We went to see a re-release of Stanley Kramer’s It’s a Mad Mad Mad World and then got some pizza at now defunct Barnone’s in Toluca Lake. Quite a start, right?”

He also shared their plans that day, “We’ll be driving in the same ‘70 VW Bug I picked Cheryl up in 5 decades ago. It runs great. So do we.”

His ‘good luck charm’

Cheryl made several cameos in Howard’s projects and even played herself on the TV comedy series Arrested Development, produced and narrated by Howard.

Speaking with the Television Academy, Ron called Cheryl his “good luck charm,” and explained that is why she appears in every film he makes.

“At a certain point, I became very superstitious about making sure that she appears, that she’s at least identifiable in one frame,” he said. “They don’t have to be big cameos, but she’s gotta be in there.”

In addition to bringing her husband some luck, Cheryl is also a published author who holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in screenwriting.

The power couple are grandparents to six children and the parents of four, daughter Bryce, twins Paige and Jocelyn and son Reed.

Bryce – a recognizable actor – is known for roles in movies like Jurassic World and The Help, while Paige made her feature film debut in the 2009 movie Adventureland. Since she’s appeared in films The Employer and Collection.

Reed is a professional golfer and Paige’s twin sister Jocelyn is very private.

The secret to longevity

Nearing their 49th anniversary on June 7, the Emmy Award-winning producer shares that “communication” is the secret to their enduring love.

“People say, ‘How’d you do it?’ There’s no technique,” Howard tells People. “There’s no tactic, other than communication is really important. You have to learn to communicate and have difficult conversations in constructive ways. Beyond that, there’s an element of luck because people either grow together or they don’t and I don’t think you can force that.”

Her Horrible Cause of Death Disclosed

According to PEOPLE, Audrii Cunningham, 11, passed away after suffering a brain injury. Five days after going missing in Texas, his body was discovered dead in a river.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences informed them that she was slain and that her cause of death was “homicidal violence.”

Officials from the institute remained silent when questioned about more potential injuries. When Audrii failed to appear at school on February 15, residents of Livingston, Texas, reported her missing to the authorities.
According o the authorities, Don Steven McDougal, 42, the guy who killed her, was charged with first-degree murder.

McDougal was taken into custody on a distinct assault accusation the day following Audrii’s disappearance. He was promptly designated as a person of interest by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, nevertheless.

On February 20, Audrii’s body was discovered. According to the sheriff’s office, McDougal was charged with capital murder by Polk County police the next day in relation to her demise.

Polk County Sheriff Byron Lyons said ABC 13 that McDougal admitted to authorities that he left the house with Audrii the morning she vanished, but he wouldn’t provide any other details.
FOX 26, KHOU 11, and Click 2 Houston were able to access court documents that showed McDougal had previously been found guilty of luring a minor.

It’s unclear if McDougal has retained legal counsel to represent him.

Movie legend has died today in a tragic car accident

It’s a “legend” that MAD MAX stuntman Grant Page died in a scary car accident.

He was 85 years old.

The Australian star was driving alone when he crashed into a tree, which made the police and fire departments rush to the scene.

Even though police and ambulances arrived quickly, the movie star tragically died.

His 49-year-old son Leroy called his dad a “legend” and said he was working on upcoming movies.

He told the Daily Mail Australia, “He died in a very good mood and with a lot of drive.” He was blissful.

Not much else is known about the accident that happened in New South Wales on Thursday.

Page was in a number of well-known action movies, such as The Man from Hong Kong, Deathcheaters, Roadgames, and Stunt Rock.

He had most recently worked on Three Thousand Years of Longing and Furiosa, a prequel to Mad Max that will come out later this year.

Friends in the business have paid tribute to the stuntman, who first appeared on the scene in the 1970s.

“Grant Page was Australia’s first stunt performer and my friend for fifty-two years,” his former manager Brian Trenchard-Smith said yesterday.

“I’ll really miss him. He was an amazing person who lived a completely honest life.

“Age makes us heavy, gravity pulls us down, and death waits for us if we dare too much,” Grant said, “Not necessarily, since he was able to change the rules of physics and probability.”

He had a “extraordinary ability” as a stuntman, Trenchard-Smith said.

“He’s the guy you get to dodge the cars, slide down the cliff on fire, jump into the water and fight the shark.”

Jamie Blanks, an Australian director, also wrote online, “I just learned the terrible news that my dear friend and legendary Australian stuntman Grant Page has died.”

For me, Grant was one of the most wonderful, kind, and brave men I’ve ever known.

“The death of this Australian legend makes me very sad today.” Grant, please rest in peace.”

Dr. Luke Buckmaster, an Australian film critic, called him “brave, audacious, and devilishly cheeky.” He also said that he left a legacy “written in tire streaks and burn marks.”

“Transfer” was the name of one of his iconic moves.

He jumped from one car window to another while they were both going very fast down a road.

Page’s four sons—Leroy, Adrian, 52, Jeremy, 51, and Gulliver, 47—along with his ex-wife Joy and ex-partner Ulli will miss him.

The pilot’s emotional reaction when he discovered why birds were flying alongside the plane

For many years, a man by the name of Jason has been a pilot.

Throughout his career, he has encountered a lot of unforeseen circumstances that called for quick thinking to be resolved. But he became a hero in one specific circumstance.

A massive flock of birds suddenly attacked the aircraft Jason was piloting during a trip, banging on the windows and making a racket.

Jason was shocked by the sight because it was so unique. He tried to escape the angry birds, but it wasn’t as simple as he thought it would be because he knew the passengers’ lives were in his hands.

He prayed that the birds wouldn’t harm the engine while he attempted to reassure everyone on board that everything would go perfectly.

Unfortunately, the birds were just becoming more and more hostile, leaving Jason unsure of what to do to get rid of them.

When he requested help from flight control, the control tower remained silent.

He decided to head back to the airport since he couldn’t keep the jet under control, but as the attacks grew more intense, he was eventually compelled to try a maneuver he had never done before: a water landing.

No matter how absurd that might sound, it was the only option that made sense to this pilot.

No passengers were hurt despite the rocky landing.

Once rescuers arrived, tugboats were sent to the area to help lift the jet out of the sea. Each passenger was brought to safety, but it took some time for this rescue operation to get underway because the bird attacks persisted. The birds resisted the rescue services’ attempts to scare them for an unknown reason, despite their persistence.

It was finally determined after an investigation what caused the flock of birds to attack the plane. The person who was attempting to smuggle some birds and was engaged in the illegal trade in exotic birds was revealed to be one of the passengers.

Jason was relieved and started crying tears of joy when everything came to an end and he realized everyone was safe. He not only averted a disaster, but also revealed a criminal enterprise.

This is simply another illustration of the difficulties those working in aviation encounter. Jason received admiration for his deed and his capacity to maintain composure and concentration while working to ensure the safety of every passenger on board.

This individual was solely responsible for ending the illicit enterprise that was the root of the unusual behavior of the birds.
